22nd Annual New Braj Harikatha Festival Monday, June 12th – Sunday, June 18th, 2017

22nd Annual New Braj Harikatha Festival

Monday, June 12th – Sunday, June 18th, 2017

It’s with great joy and excitement that we announce New Braj’s 22nd Harikatha Festival! It’s our humble hope that you’ll make space in your summer for another fantastic week of heart-melting bhajans, rocking kirtans, captivating harikatha and the ecstatic delight of our year: Sri Govardhan Puja, not forgetting the dramas and feasting of course, in what promises to be another beautiful and enriching family reunion.

Celebrating 22 years since Srila Gurudeva’s arrival in the West, it’s with a deep gratitude that we come together to remember, honor and share the mercy that Srila Gurudeva, Srila Prabhupada and our magnificent guru-varga have showered upon all of us. The wealth of Srila Gurudeva’s harikatha, presence and love is unfathomable, and by his compassion he left his children with New Braj: a small, sweet, memory-laden mountain temple and the service of Sri Sri Radha-Govinda. But the fulfillment of this place lies in your arrival, in our service to the Vaisnavas, to our greater community, and in supporting the opportunity for us all to nurture the seeds Srila Gurudeva planted in our hearts.

Below is information regarding the festival details and line-up, with a few changes and additions, such as the Questions and Answers booth for our new devotees and guests, as well as classes for children. More information regarding the full program will follow in the lead up to the festival.

With love, affection and the desire to please Srila Gurudeva, we invite you all to return to New Braj to nourish, inspire, kindle the devotional fire, and share this very special week with us. We look forward to see all so soon!

Annakuta Maha Mahotasava – Govardhana Puja Festival

Twenty one years ago Srila Gurudeva inaugurated the worship of Sri Giriraja Govardhana in New Braj, flooding this land with his own Braj mood. It wouldn’t be a New Braj festival if we didn’t conjure memories of Srila Gurudeva pouring milk and honey onto our own Govardhana hill, and so this year our rather euphoric Annakuta festival will take place on Saturday 18th June.

Last year we all managed to cook up over 800 astounding preparations and as always, we love trying to beat our own record. If you’d like the opportunity to please the endlessly sweet Giriraja Govardhan, then we’d love for you to get involved! As there won’t be any spare ingredients on the festival site and the nearest markets are 45+mins away in Three Rivers, Visalia, Woodlake and Exeter, forward planning is advised. Your offering doesn’t need to complicated, dried fruits, nuts, etc are wonderful, but if you fancy cooking up a storm, please check in with Vrinda didi or Sravan prabhu for kitchen scheduling, and you can always speak to local residents about using their cooking facilities. Some ingredients will be on sale on Friday and Saturday by the registration area, and requesting ingredients from devotees heading to town is possible, but we highly recommend coming prepared.

If you wish to sponsor a large preparation for the Annakuta feast, or for any other meal, please contact Manjuvasini didi for more details at manjuvasinidasi@yahoo.com.

 Transportation to the Festival Site
The best way is to connect with other devotees* through Facebook who own cars or who are renting vehicles and then carpool to the Festival site. We really appreciate your help with this for those who need assistance for ride coordination from Visalia, please contact: govindarupini@yahoo.com. (a fee of $20.00 per person for gas will be appreciated for the transportation) if any rides become available from the Fresno Airport a fee of $40 per person will be appreciated This is a very limited seva that we can provide and pickups will be coordinated with other arriving guests. There will be only one pickup per day and we will do our best to facilitate this. It is possible that you could have to wait or even spend the night in town if you arrive too late in the day.

Ride Sharing
*If you can help by offering rides from Los Angeles, the Bay Area, Fresno or Visalia please post your schedule to our New Braj Facebook page.

DIRECTIONS TO FESTIVAL SITE

Through Visalia, CA from Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Southern California

Use Googlemaps.com for directions from LAX or SFO to Prince Mart (service station, petro pumps) turn off at “33423 Sierra Drive, Lemon Cove, CA 93244-1701″.
At this point click the add destination button to add a 3rd destination of final address: 51869 Eshom Valley Drive, Badger, CA 93603.
Note in steps 1 and 2 above, if you just add final destination without Prince Mart address, you will be taken on a wild goose chase. We cannot vouch for other maps services such as Yahoo, MapQuest, etc or GPS live instructions. The above route is the straightest but still has a fair amount of curves.

A summary of the above instructions: from Hwy 99 at Visalia exit, Take Hwy 198 EAST through Lemon Cove. Just after passing through Lemon Cove, turn left immediately past the Prince Mart Gas Station/store (on left) onto Hwy 216. Approximately a half-mile up, cross the Kaweah River Bridge and take an immediate right onto Dry Creek Drive. Proceed for approximately 16 miles, then you will reach a fork, bear to the right onto Stagecoach Road. Continue 2 miles and then turn left onto Eshom Valley Drive to 51869 Eshom Valley Drive, about 6/10 of a mile down from Stagecoach Road on the right hand side of the road. Please watch for signs to help you enter the Festival Site. The Festival site is at Srila Gurudeva’s New Braj Center.

Driving time is approximately four hours (260 miles) from LA airport and about five hours (320 miles) from the San Francisco airport.

Through Fresno, CA from San Francisco Bay Area or Northern California

The above set of directions through Visalia, CA is the straightest way. If you are coming from the north and don’t mind a few more curves, you can go through Fresno, CA and save mileage, gas, and time.

Use Googlemaps.com for directions from SFO, Bay Area, or Northern California address including Fresno Airport (FAT) to final destination: 51869 Eshom Valley Drive, Badger, CA 93603.
Once on Hogback Rd. or Eshom Valley Drive, ignore the “Turn to Stay on” instructions as they are just curves in the road. You might want to still make note of the mileage.
We cannot guarantee other map services or GPS instructions.

Visit New Braj on Facebook to learn more about to New Braj and see schedules of our events.
